Parashat Noach – Year 3 – Together, but Far from Yahweh.
Shabbat Shalom, Nazarene family.
This week we will study the parashat Noach, portion of year 3, where we will read about a people who wanted to build a very tall tower to become famous, but forgot to include Yahweh in their plans. We will see what happens when unity does not have a good purpose. We will learn how Yahweh intervened, confusing their language and scattering them throughout the land. We will also meet Shem’s descendants and get to a very special character named Abram. We will see that, although human plans may fail, Yahweh is always guiding His story step by step.
B’reisheet (Genesis) 11:5-6
5 But Yahweh came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built.
6 And Yahweh said, “Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them.”
This week corresponds to the reading of the texts (in bold):
- B’reisheet (Genesis) 6:9-8:14 / 8:15-10:32 / 11:1-32
- Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 54:1-6 / 54:7-17 / 55:1-5
- Luqa (Luke) 1:5-25 / 1:26-56 / 1:57-80
Summary of the weekly study, Year two:
B’reisheet (Genesis) 11:1-32
In these verses, we see how mankind, united by the same language, decides to build a great tower to make a name for themselves and not be dispersed. Their plan seems strong, but it is guided by pride and self-sufficiency, disregarding Yahweh. He comes down, confuses their languages and scatters them throughout the earth. Then, we follow the genealogy of Shem until we reach Abram, marking the beginning of a new chapter in Yahweh’s plan. In this passage, we learn that true unity only has value when it is aligned with the will of our Creator.
Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 55:1-5
In these verses, we hear a call full of tenderness from Yahweh to all who are thirsty. We are invited to come and receive freely what truly satisfies: water, bread, milk and wine, without paying anything. Yahweh encourages us to listen attentively, to seek what gives true life, and to make covenant with Him. He also promises us that His faithfulness, shown to David, will reach many peoples. Even unknown nations will respond to this call. In this passage, we learn that Yahweh generously offers salvation and purpose to those who seek Him with a willing heart.
Luqa (Luke) 1:57-80
In these verses, the son of Elisheva (Elizabeth) and Zechariah is born, just as the messenger (angel) had announced. Everyone expected him to be named after his father, but they obey the heavenly instruction and name him Yochanan. When Zechariah regains his speech, he praises Yahweh and prophesies filled with the Spirit. He blesses Yahweh for remembering His covenant and for raising up salvation through the Messiah. He also announces his son’s special role as a prophet who will prepare the way. In this passage, we learn that Yahweh keeps His promises and uses simple people to prepare great things in His perfect plan.

Enjoy this fun activity with the whole family. Inside you will find development questions for the three weekly sections (Torah, Haftarah and Brit Chadasha). While the older ones discuss the questions and their answers, the younger ones can color the picture related to the teaching, solve a maze, find the 7 differences and much more. We encourage you to do it week by week and instill in your children the habit of studying Yahweh’s word as a family.
We hope you and especially your sons and daughters enjoy this effort. For it is through the study of the Scriptures that we can come to understand the love and care that Yahweh has always had for us. And also to perceive that He has been taking care of even the smallest detail, so that we can take care and enjoy all that He gives us. That is why it is so important that our children learn and grow up knowing that they are loved by the Creator of all that exists.
Shalom.
