Parasha B’shalach – Year 2 – The Liberation Song.

 

Shabbat Shalom, Nazarene family.

This week we will study the parasha B’shalach, portion of year 2, where we will see the song of deliverance pronounced by Moshe (Moses) and the children of Israel. This portion recounts the victory of the Israelites over the Egyptians at the Red Sea. Moshe and the Israelites sing a song of praise to Yahweh for their deliverance. However, they soon face the bitterness of the water of Marah, which Elohim turns sweet. We will learn that Yahweh Elohim promises healing if we obey His statutes.

Summary of the weekly study, Year two:

Shemote (Exodus) 15:1-27

These verses narrate the song of Moshe and the Israelites after crossing the Red Sea, praising Yahweh for their deliverance from the Egyptian army. They recognize the greatness of Elohim and His saving power. Then, in the desert of Shur, the Israelites face the lack of water. They arrive at Marah, where the water is bitter, but Yahweh instructs Moshe to throw a tree into the water, making it drinkable. Elohim establishes a covenant, promising not to send disease to His people if they obey His commandments. Finally, they reach Elim, where they find twelve springs of water and seventy palm trees, and camp there.

Shophetim (Judges) 4:17-24

These verses relate the death of Sisera, the commander of the Canaanite army. After being defeated by Deborah and Barak, Sisera flees on foot and seeks refuge in the tent of Jael, wife of Heber the Kenite. Jael receives him and offers him milk. When Sisera falls asleep, Jael takes a tent peg and drives it into his temple, killing him. Barak arrives and Jael shows him Sisera dead. Jael’s victory demonstrates how Yahweh can use anyone, even outside the military, to accomplish His purpose and deliver Israel from its oppressors.

Mattityahu (Matthew) 5:17-32

These verses are part of the Sermon on the Mount, where Yeshua makes it clear that he has not come to abolish the Law or the Prophets, but to fulfill them. He teaches that the righteousness of His followers must surpass that of the Pharisees. Yeshua elaborates on the commandments, emphasizing the importance of heart and intention: it is not enough to avoid murder, but anger and contempt are also condemnable. Similarly, lust is equated with adultery. Yeshua addresses the importance of reconciliation and the seriousness of divorce. His teaching underscores the need for authentic and deep inner justice.
