Parasha B’reisheet – Year 2 – Offering from the Heart
Shabbat Shalom, Nazarene family.
This week we bring the activity from the parashah B’reisheet, where we will learn about the creation of man and woman and the precious place that was their initial home. In addition, we will see the consequences of disobedience and how this affected the following generations as well.
B’reisheet (Genesis) 4:3-5
3 And in the process of time it came to pass that Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the ground to Yahweh.
4 Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat. And Yahweh respected Abel and his offering,
5 but He did not respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell.
This week corresponds to the reading of the texts:
- B’reisheet (Genesis) 1:1-2:3 / 2:4-4:26 / 5:1-6:8
- Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 42:5-17 / 42:18-25 / 43:1-10
- Yochanan (John) 1:1-5 / 1:6-13 / 1:14-18
Summary of the weekly study, Year two:
B’reisheet (Genesis) 2:4-4:26
B’reisheet (Genesis) 2:4-4:26 narrates the creation of Adam and Eve, their life in Eden and their fall due to disobedience. Adam and Eve have two sons, Cain and Abel. Cain kills Abel out of jealousy and is banished by Yahweh. Cain founds a city and his lineage is recorded. Adam and Eve have another son, Seth, whose lineage is also described. The narrative highlights the importance of obeying Yahweh, the consequences of sin and the continuity of humanity despite mistakes. It is a fundamental account in the understanding of the human condition and the relationship with the divine.
Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 42:18-25
Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 42:18-25 rebukes Israel for their spiritual deafness and blindness to Yahweh’s teachings. Elohim, as Father, laments the lack of understanding of His people. Despite witnessing miracles and fulfilled prophecies, they persist in rebellion and idolatry. Yahweh presents Himself as the one true Elohim and sovereign over all things. He announces a future in which He will restore justice and truth, defeating the enemies of His people. The underlying lesson is the importance of obedience and faith in Yahweh, who brings redemption and restoration.
Yochanan (John) 1:6-13
Yochanan (John) 1:6-13 presents Yochanan the Immerser as a witness to the light, preparing the way for Yeshua the Messiah, the true light. Although Yochanan was not the light, he pointed to it so that people would believe. Yeshua, the Word incarnate, came into the world, but many did not recognize him or receive him. However, those who received him and believed in his name, he empowered them to become children of Elohim, born not of human will, but of Yahweh himself. This passage highlights the importance of faith in Messiah Yeshua in order to be called sons of Elohim.

Enjoy this fun activity with the whole family. Inside you will find development questions for the three weekly sections (Torah, Haftarah and Brit Chadashah). While the older ones discuss the questions and their answers, the younger ones can color the picture related to the teaching, solve a maze, find the 7 differences and much more. We encourage you to do it week by week and instill in your children the habit of studying Yahweh’s word as a family.
We hope you and especially your sons and daughters enjoy this effort. For it is through the study of the Scriptures that we can come to understand the love and care that Yahweh has always had for us. And also to perceive that He has been taking care of even the smallest detail, so that we can take care and enjoy all that He gives us. That is why it is so important that our children learn and grow up knowing that they are loved by the Creator of all that exists.
Shalom.
