Parashat B’reisheet – Year 3 – Chosen by Elohim.
Shabbat Shalom, Nazarene family.
This week we will study the parashat B’reisheet, portion of year 3, where we will see the genealogy of Adam, from Seth to Noah, where we will be able to read about the longevity of these patriarchs. We will learn how mankind multiplies, but also how wickedness increases on earth, causing Yahweh sorrow. We will read that Yahweh regrets creating man because of his corruption and violence, but we will also see how Noah finds grace in Yahweh’s sight. This section prepares us for the account of the flood, showing the difference between general wickedness and Noah’s righteousness.
B’reisheet (Genesis) 6:6-8
6 And Yahweh was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart.
7 So Yahweh said, “I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.”
8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of Yahweh.
This week corresponds to the reading of the texts (in bold):
- B’reisheet (Genesis) 1:1-2:3 / 2:4-4:26 / 5:1-6:8
- Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 42:5-17 / 42:18-25 / 43:1-10
- Yochanan (John) 1:1-5 / 1:6-13 / 1:14-18
Summary of the weekly study, Year three:
B’reisheet (Genesis) 5:1-6:8
In these verses, we will see how humanity multiplies from Adam to Noah, highlighting the longevity of the patriarchs. Despite the growth of population, we will also witness the increase of wickedness on earth, which causes Yahweh grief. As men become corrupt and violence spreads, Yahweh regrets having created man. However, Noah distinguishes himself by his righteousness, finding grace in Yahweh’s sight. In this passage, we learn that obedience and righteousness can make a difference in the midst of a corrupt generation.
Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 43:1-10
In these verses, we will see how Yahweh reaffirms His love and protection for Israel, reminding them that He has created, formed and redeemed them. We will learn that, even if they face deep waters or burning fire, Yahweh will be with them and will not allow them to be destroyed. We will read that Yahweh calls them by name and declares that they are his, guaranteeing his constant presence. We will also see how Yahweh proclaims his uniqueness as Savior and the inability of other elohim (gods) to deliver. In this passage, we learn that Yahweh’s power and love are incomparable and eternal.
Yochanan (John) 1:14-18
In these verses, we will see how the Word becomes flesh and dwells among us, revealing the glory of the Only Begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. We will learn that Yeshua, as the visible manifestation of Yahweh, reflects His fullness and grants us grace upon grace. We will read that, although the law was given through Moshe, grace and truth came through Yeshua. We will also see that no one has ever seen Yahweh, but Yeshua has made him known. In this passage, we learn that Yeshua is the perfect expression of Yahweh’s grace.

Enjoy this fun activity with the whole family. Inside you will find development questions for the three weekly sections (Torah, Haftarah and Brit Chadasha). While the older ones discuss the questions and their answers, the younger ones can color the picture related to the teaching, solve a maze, find the 7 differences and much more. We encourage you to do it week by week and instill in your children the habit of studying Yahweh’s word as a family.
We hope you and especially your sons and daughters enjoy this effort. For it is through the study of the Scriptures that we can come to understand the love and care that Yahweh has always had for us. And also to perceive that He has been taking care of even the smallest detail, so that we can take care and enjoy all that He gives us. That is why it is so important that our children learn and grow up knowing that they are loved by the Creator of all that exists.
Shalom.
