Parashat Vayigash – Year 3 – Joseph and Jacob: The Long Awaited Reunion.
Shabbat Shalom, Nazarene family.
This week we will study the parashat Vayigash, portion of year 3, where we will see the emotional reunion between Jacob and Joseph, filled with tears and joy after so many years apart. We will learn how the family of Israel settles in the land of Goshen, a place prepared by Yahweh to protect them during the time of famine. We will read how Joseph wisely manages Egypt’s resources and cares for both his family and the people. This passage shows us faithfulness, provision, and Yahweh’s hand guiding every step with love.
B’reisheet (Genesis) 46:28-29
28 Then he sent Judah before him to Joseph, to point out before him the way to Goshen. And they came to the land of Goshen.
29 So Joseph made ready his chariot and went up to Goshen to meet his father Israel; and he presented himself to him, and fell on his neck and wept on his neck a good while.
This week corresponds to the reading of the texts (in bold):
- B’reisheet (Genesis) 44:18-45:27 / 45:28-46:27 / 46:28-47:27
- Yehezqel (Ezekiel) 37:1-14 / 37:15-22 / 37:23-28
- Yochanan (John) 5:1-18 / 5:19-29 / 5:30-47
Summary of the weekly study, Year three:
B’reisheet (Genesis) 46:28-47:27
In these verses, Jacob finally reunites with Joseph in a deeply emotional moment. The family of Israel settles in Goshen, where they will be cared for during the famine. Joseph, with wisdom and compassion, organizes their stay and guides his brothers to present themselves before Pharaoh. He also manages Egypt’s resources during the crisis, demonstrating faithfulness and strategy. Yahweh fulfills His promise to multiply His people even in a foreign land. In this passage, we learn that Yahweh directs the times with purpose, care, and unwavering faithfulness.
Yehezqel (Ezekiel) 37:23-28
In these verses, Yahweh promises to restore His people, cleansing them of all impurity and idolatry. He will gather the scattered tribes and make them one nation under one King, a descendant of David. He will make an everlasting covenant of peace with them and dwell among them forever. His sanctuary will be among them, and all nations will know that He has sanctified Israel. In this passage, we learn that Yahweh desires unity, purity, and eternal communion with His people, and that His presence is the true sign of restoration and blessing.
Yochanan (John) 5:30-47
In these verses, Yeshua declares that He does not act on His own will, but does the will of the Father who sent Him. He speaks of the testimony that supports Him: not only that of Yochanan (John), but also His works and the voice of the Father. He explains that the Scriptures themselves bear witness to Him, but many do not believe because they do not have the love of Yahweh in their hearts. In this passage, we learn that believing in Yeshua requires humility, an attentive ear to the Father’s testimony, and a faith that springs from a heart that loves the truth.

Enjoy this fun activity with the whole family. Inside you will find development questions for the three weekly sections (Torah, Haftarah and Brit Chadasha). While the older ones discuss the questions and their answers, the younger ones can color the picture related to the teaching, solve a maze, find the 7 differences and much more. We encourage you to do it week by week and instill in your children the habit of studying Yahweh’s word as a family.
We hope you and especially your sons and daughters enjoy this effort. For it is through the study of the Scriptures that we can come to understand the love and care that Yahweh has always had for us. And also to perceive that He has been taking care of even the smallest detail, so that we can take care and enjoy all that He gives us. That is why it is so important that our children learn and grow up knowing that they are loved by the Creator of all that exists.
Shalom.
