Parashat Vayelech – Year 3 – Strong and Courageous!
Shabbat Shalom, Nazarene family.
This week we will study the parashat Vayelech, portion of year 3, where we will see how Yahweh calls Moses and Joshua to give them instructions before their departure. We will learn that the Creator knows our hearts and warns us not to stray from His path in the future. We will read about a special song that will serve as a witness for all generations of Israel. We will also see how the Torah is kept next to the Ark of the Covenant to protect it forever. Finally, we will learn the importance of listening carefully to the words that Elohim gives us so that we may live in peace, security, well-being, and under His constant guidance.
Devarim (Deuteronomy) 31:23
23 Then He inaugurated Joshua the son of Nun, and said, “Be strong and of good courage; for you shall bring the children of Israel into the land of which I swore to them, and I will be with you.”
This week corresponds to the reading of the texts (in bold):
- Devarim (Deuteronomy) 31:1-8 / 31:9-13 / 31:14-30
- Hoshea (Hosea) 14
- Mikah (Micah) 7
- Yoel (Joel) 2
- Ya’akov (James) 1:1-18 / 1:19-2:13 / 2:14-26
Summary of the weekly study, Year three:
Devarim (Deuteronomy) 31:14-30
In these verses, we observe the transition of leadership from Moses to Joshua under Yahweh’s direction. Our Elohim warns that, in the future, the people could forget His commandments and stray from His presence. To prevent this, a special song is given and the Torah is placed next to the Ark of the Covenant as a permanent witness. The purpose is to always remind us of our responsibility to remain faithful to His word, even when we face changes. Divine guidance is essential to maintaining our spiritual identity. In this passage, we learn that constant faithfulness to Yahweh’s word is our protection.
Yoel (Joel) 2
In these verses, we discover Yahweh’s loving call for His people to return to Him with all their hearts. We are asked for sincere repentance, tearing our souls and not just our garments, because our Elohim is gracious and merciful. He promises to restore lost blessings and pour out His own Spirit upon all His children, giving them prophetic visions and dreams. His desire is that we all be saved before His great and terrible day comes, showing that there is always an opportunity for redemption. In this passage, we learn that true repentance opens the door to restoration.
Ya’akov (James) 2:14-26
In these verses, we understand that true faith must always be accompanied by concrete actions that demonstrate our devotion. It is not enough to say that we believe; our lives must reflect our commitment to follow His will and obey Yahweh’s commandments. Just as Abraham showed his faithfulness through his works, we must demonstrate our love for Elohim through active obedience. A faith that does not produce visible fruit is lifeless and has no transforming power. By walking in set-apartness, we honor Yeshua and show His light to the world. In this passage, we learn that faith without works is dead.

Enjoy this fun activity with the whole family. Inside you will find development questions for the three weekly sections (Torah, Haftarah and Brit Chadasha). While the older ones discuss the questions and their answers, the little ones can put together a puzzle related to the lesson, solve a maze, find the 7 differences and much more. We encourage you to do it week by week and instill in your children the habit of studying Yahweh’s word as a family.
We hope you and especially your sons and daughters enjoy this effort. For it is through the study of the Scriptures that we can come to understand the love and care that Yahweh has always had for us. And also to perceive that He has been taking care of even the smallest detail, so that we can take care and enjoy all that He gives us. That is why it is so important that our children learn and grow up knowing that they are loved by the Creator of all that exists.
Shalom.
