Parashat Vayeira – Year 3 – The Sacrifice of Isaac.

Shabbat Shalom, Nazarene family.

This week we will study the parashat Vayeira, portion of year 3, where we will see how Yahweh keeps His promise and Sarah has a son, even in her old age. We will learn about the challenges between Ishmael and Isaac and how Yahweh cares for both of them. We will read a powerful story where Avraham is tested with a very difficult request, but we will also see how Yahweh provides a way out. We will learn that trusting Yahweh, even when we don’t understand everything, is part of the journey of faith. We will see that He always has a plan and never forgets what He has promised.

Summary of the weekly study, Year three:

B’reisheet (Genesis) 21:1-22:24

In these verses, we see how Yahweh fulfills His promise with the birth of Isaac, bringing joy to Sarah. We also observe how He cares for Hagar and Ishmael when they are sent away. Then, we read Avraham’s shocking test of faith, when Yahweh asks him to do something very difficult: to offer his son. Even so, Avraham obeys in full trust, and Yahweh provides a ram in Isaac’s place. In this passage, we learn that Yahweh is faithful to His promises, cares for all, and honors obedience born of trust, even in the hardest trials.

Melachim Bet (2 Kings) 4:38-44

In these verses, we will see how the prophet Elisha faces a difficult situation during a time of famine. A poisoned pottage puts the prophets in danger, but we will learn how Yahweh, through Elisha, transforms the deadly into something safe. We will also read how with a few loaves and ears of corn, Yahweh multiplies the food to feed many, and there is even plenty left over. In this passage, we learn that Yahweh cares for His people in times of need, that He can change evil into good, and that nothing is impossible when we trust in His provision.

Luqa (Luke) 2:39-52

In these verses, we will see how Yeshua grows in wisdom, stature and grace, living an obedient life with His parents. We will learn about a special moment when, at only twelve years old, He stays in the Temple talking to the teachers, surprising everyone with His understanding. Although Miriam and Yosef are distressed to seek Him, Yeshua shows them that He already knows that His place is in His Father’s business. In this passage, we learn that from a young age, Yeshua was clear about His purpose and that spiritual growth begins at a young age.

While the older ones discuss the questions and their answers, the younger ones can color the picture related to the teaching, solve a maze, find the 7 differences and much more. We encourage you to do it week by week and instill in your children the habit of studying Yahweh’s word as a family.

We hope you and especially your sons and daughters enjoy this effort. For it is through the study of the Scriptures that we can come to understand the love and care that Yahweh has always had for us. And also to perceive that He has been taking care of even the smallest detail, so that we can take care and enjoy all that He gives us. That is why it is so important that our children learn and grow up knowing that they are loved by the Creator of all that exists.
