Parashat Shoftim – Year 3 – Peace Before War.
Shabbat Shalom, Nazarene family.
This week we will study the parashat Shoftim, portion of year 3, where we will see the importance of always respecting the boundaries of others’ property and how to apply true justice through reliable witnesses. We will learn that Yahweh values absolute integrity and that punishment must be just in order to eradicate evil from the people. We will read about how to face conflicts with courage, trusting that Elohim fights our battles, while also knowing who can withdraw from combat. Finally, we will understand the immense value of human life through special ceremonies that cleanse the land of innocent blood. Thus, we will learn to walk in complete righteousness before Him.
Devarim (Deuteronomy) 20:10
10 “When you go near a city to fight against it, then proclaim an offer of peace to it.
This week corresponds to the reading of the texts (in bold):
- Devarim (Deuteronomy) 16:18-18:5 / 18:6-19:13 / 19:14-21:9
- Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 51:1-11 / 51:12-23 / 52
- Mattityahu (Matthew) 26:1-56 / 26:57-27:26 / 27:27-66
Summary of the weekly study, Year three:
Devarim (Deuteronomy) 19:14-21:9
In these verses, we are taught the value of justice and honesty in our daily lives. It is essential to respect the boundaries of others and always speak the truth in any legal conflict. When we face difficult challenges, we should not be afraid because Yahweh fights for us, giving us courage and constant security. We are also shown the great respect we should have for human life, even in uncertain or painful situations. We must take care that our land remains clean of all evil in order to honor our Elohim always. In this passage, we learn that justice and integrity bring peace.
Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 52
In these verses, we see the glorious call to rise from the dust and regain the dignity lost after captivity. We are assured that redemption comes freely through the pure love and sovereignty of Yahweh, who will not allow His name to be despised forever. The arrival of the messenger announcing peace is a cause for great rejoicing for those who await the final restoration. The whole earth will witness divine salvation as the people walk in set-apartness and purity toward their destiny. In this passage, we learn that the deliverance of Zion manifests the infinite power of our Yahweh.
Mattityahu (Matthew) 27:27-66
In these verses, we contemplate the total surrender of Yeshua, who endured extreme suffering to restore our relationship with Elohim. Despite human cruelty, His silence and dignity reveal a spiritual strength that goes beyond comprehension. The physical darkness and torn veil announce that the way to Yahweh has been opened forever. Even when buried under guard, nothing can contain the promise of life that beats in His work. It is a reminder that true glory comes after surrender. In this passage, we learn that divine sacrifice overcomes sin.

Enjoy this fun activity with the whole family. Inside you will find development questions for the three weekly sections (Torah, Haftarah and Brit Chadasha). While the older ones discuss the questions and their answers, the younger ones can color the picture related to the teaching, solve a maze, find the 7 differences and much more. We encourage you to do it week by week and instill in your children the habit of studying Yahweh’s word as a family.
We hope you and especially your sons and daughters enjoy this effort. For it is through the study of the Scriptures that we can come to understand the love and care that Yahweh has always had for us. And also to perceive that He has been taking care of even the smallest detail, so that we can take care and enjoy all that He gives us. That is why it is so important that our children learn and grow up knowing that they are loved by the Creator of all that exists.
Shalom.
