Devarim (Deuteronomy) 29:18

Parasha Nitzavim – Year 1 – Witnesses of the Covenant

Shabbat Shalom, Nazarene family.

This week we bring the activity of the parasha Nitzavim, in which we will see the people of Israel in the presence of Yahweh, standing as witnesses to the covenant and oath of Elohim, to confirm them as His people. Furthermore, it warns them of the danger of turning away from this covenant, bringing the wrath of Yahweh upon those who turn their hearts away from Him.

Devarim (Deuteronomy) 29:18
18 so that there may not be among you man or woman or family or tribe, whose heart turns away today from Yahweh our Elohim, to go and serve the elohim of these nations, and that there may not be among you a root bearing bitterness or wormwood;

This week corresponds to the reading of the texts:

  • Devarim (Deuteronomy) 29:9-29 / 30:1-10 / 30:11-20
  • Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 61 / 62 / 63
  • Luqa (Luke) 24:1-12 / 24:13-35 / 24:36-53

Summary of the weekly study, Year one:

Devarim (Deuteronomy) 29:9-29

These verses emphasizes the significance of the covenant between Yahweh and the people of Israel. Mosheh stresses the need to obey divine laws to receive blessings and avoid Yahweh’s wrath. He warns about the consequences of disobedience, including destruction and exile. The passage underscores individual and collective responsibility in adhering to commandments. Furthermore, it reveals that only Yahweh knows the secrets of the future, and the revelation of the law is meant to guide the community. The passage highlights the intimate relationship between Yahweh and His people, founded on mutual commitment.

Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 61

These verses presents a prophecy about the Messiah, who brings comfort, redemption, and restoration. The chosen one of Yawheh proclaims freedom for the captives, comfort for the afflicted, and the year of divine favor. It announces transformation and renewal, replacing sorrow with joy and despair with hope. The Messiah will also restore the land and establish a just nation. This passage highlights Yahweh’s redemptive work and His desire to bring comfort and salvation to His people, anticipating the arrival of Yeshua Messiah as the fulfillment of this prophecy.

Luqa (Luke) 24:1-12

These verses relates the resurrection of Yeshua. At dawn, women go to the tomb and find the tomb empty. Two messengers (angels) inform them that Yeshua has risen, reminding them of His previous words. Although initially incredulous, the disciples Kepha (Peter) and Yochanan (John) confirm the absence of the body. This passage underscores the victory over death, the importance of remembering Yeshua’s teachings and the need for faith in His resurrection. The news of the empty tomb establishes the foundation for Nazarene faith, demonstrating Yeshua’s redemptive work and His power over death.

Parasha Nitzavim - Year 1 - Witnesses of the Covenant

Enjoy this fun activity with the whole family. Inside you will find development questions for the three weekly sections (Torah, Haftarah and Brit Chadashah). While the older ones discuss the questions and their answers, the younger ones can color the picture related to the teaching, solve a maze, find the 7 differences and much more. We encourage you to do it week by week and instill in your children the habit of studying Yahweh’s word as a family.

We hope you and especially your sons and daughters enjoy this effort. For it is through the study of the Scriptures that we can come to understand the love and care that Yahweh has always had for us. And also to perceive that He has been taking care of even the smallest detail, so that we can take care and enjoy all that He gives us. That is why it is so important that our children learn and grow up knowing that they are loved by the Creator of all that exists.

Shalom.
