Parashat Nitzavim – Year 2 – Repentance and Forgiveness.
Shabbat Shalom, Nazarene family.
This week we will study the parashat Nitzavim, portion of year 2, where we will see how Yahweh offers His people the opportunity to repent and return to Him, promising restoration and blessing if they obey His commandments. It is emphasized that the choice of life and prosperity is within Israel’s reach, and that Yahweh will give them a willing heart to follow His will. The passage shows us the accessibility of Yahweh’s law and the importance of choosing obedience to experience His favor and the blessings of the promised land.
Devarim (Deuteronomy) 30:1-3
1 “Now it shall come to pass, when all these things come upon you, the blessing and the curse which I have set before you, and you call them to mind among all the nations where Yahweh your Elohim drives you,
2 and you return to Yahweh your Elohim and obey His voice, according to all that I command you today, you and your children, with all your heart and with all your soul,
3 that Yahweh your Elohim will bring you back from captivity, and have compassion on you, and gather you again from all the nations where Yahweh your Elohim has scattered you.
This week corresponds to the reading of the texts (in bold):
- Devarim (Deuteronomy) 29:9-29 / 30:1-10 / 30:11-20
- Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 61 / 62 / 63
- Luqa (Luke) 24:1-12 / 24:13-35 / 24:36-53
Summary of the weekly study, Year two:
Devarim (Deuteronomy) 30:1-10
In these verses, Yahweh calls His people to reflect and return to Him after having experienced blessings and curses as a result of their obedience or disobedience. Yahweh promises to restore Israel, gathering them from among the nations where they have been scattered. If they wholeheartedly obey His commandments, Yahweh will renew His covenant, multiply His blessings and give them a heart willing to love and follow Him. This passage teaches us about Yahweh’s mercy and His willingness to forgive and restore His people when they repent and choose to live in obedience to His commands.
Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 62
In these verses, Yahweh promises to restore Jerusalem, assuring that it will be a city of glory and renown among the nations. Yahweh declares His love and commitment, comparing His people to a precious crown in His hand. Jerusalem will no longer be called forsaken and desolate, but Yahweh’s delight and betrothed land. The role of the watchmen who constantly pray for the city is highlighted, while Yahweh assures them that He will fulfill His promises. This chapter reflects Yahweh’s faithfulness and everlasting love for His people, guaranteeing their redemption, protection and the manifestation of His glory in them.
Luqa (Luke) 24:13-35
In these verses, two disciples of Yeshua walk to Emmaus, discouraged by the recent events of His crucifixion. Yeshua joins them on the road, though they do not recognize Him, and explains to them the Scriptures that point to the Messiah and His suffering. Upon reaching their destination, Yeshua breaks bread with them, at which point their eyes are opened and they recognize Him. He then disappears from their sight. This passage demonstrates how Yeshua reveals His identity through Scripture and communion, strengthening the faith of His followers.

Enjoy this fun activity with the whole family. Inside you will find development questions for the three weekly sections (Torah, Haftarah and Brit Chadasha). While the older ones discuss the questions and their answers, the younger ones can color the picture related to the teaching, solve a maze, find the 7 differences and much more. We encourage you to do it week by week and instill in your children the habit of studying Yahweh’s word as a family.
We hope you and especially your sons and daughters enjoy this effort. For it is through the study of the Scriptures that we can come to understand the love and care that Yahweh has always had for us. And also to perceive that He has been taking care of even the smallest detail, so that we can take care and enjoy all that He gives us. That is why it is so important that our children learn and grow up knowing that they are loved by the Creator of all that exists.
Shalom.
