Parashat Lech Lecha – Year 1 – The Promised Land.
Shabbat Shalom, Nazarene family.
This week we will study the parashat Lech Lecha, portion of year 1, where we will see how Yahweh calls Avram to leave his land to follow His direction toward a set-apart place. We will learn about the promises of blessing and how faith is tested during difficult moments. We will read about the descent into Egypt and the challenges they face there. Also, we will see the importance of seeking peace when Avram and Lot decide to separate to avoid strife between their herdsmen. Finally, we will read how He reaffirms His covenant of land and offspring, ensuring that His word will always be fulfilled in favor of His people.
B’reisheet (Genesis) 12:1-2
1 Now Yahweh had said to Avram: “Get out of your country, From your family And from your father’s house, To a land that I will show you.
2 I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing.
This week corresponds to the reading of the texts (in bold):

- Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 40:1-31 / 41:1-20 / 41:21-29

Summary of the weekly study, Year one:
B’reisheet (Genesis) 12:1-13:18
In these verses, Yahweh calls Avram to leave his country and his kindred, promising to make him a great nation and to bless all families of the earth through him. Avram obeys and travels to Canaan, though a famine forces him to seek refuge temporarily in Egypt. After returning with great wealth, a conflict arises between his herdsmen and those of his nephew Lot. With humility, Avram allows Lot to choose first, and after Lot departs, Yahweh reaffirms His promise to give him all the land and an innumerable offspring. Avram then builds an altar in Hebron to honor Him. In this passage, we learn that Yahweh guides and prospers those who walk in obedience to His set-apart word and seek peace.
Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 40:1-31
In these verses, Yahweh offers profound comfort to His people, proclaiming that their time of hard service has ended. A voice is heard crying out in the wilderness to prepare the way for Yahweh, highlighting His eternal glory in contrast to the frailty of mankind. He is presented as the gentle Shepherd who carries His lambs in His arms and as the incomparable Creator who stretches out the heavens and calls every star by name. His understanding is unsearchable, and He gives power to the faint, allowing those who wait for Him to renew their strength and mount up with wings like eagles. In this passage, we learn that Yahweh is the set-apart source of everlasting strength who empowers those who put their trust in Him.
Mattityahu (Matthew) 1:5-25
In these verses, part of the genealogy of Yeshua and the divine announcement of His birth are detailed. Miriam, betrothed to Joseph, was found to be pregnant through the set-apart Spirit before the marriage was consummated. Joseph, being righteous, thought of leaving her secretly to protect her, but a messenger of Yahweh revealed to him in a dream that the child was conceived by the power of Elohim. He was commanded to name Him Yeshua, for He would save His people from their sins, fulfilling the prophecy of Immanuel. Joseph obeyed promptly, accepting His sovereign will and taking Miriam as his wife. In this passage, we learn that Yeshua is the Savior promised and sent by Yahweh.

Enjoy this fun activity with the whole family. Inside you will find development questions for the three weekly sections (Torah, Haftarah and Brit Chadasha). While the older ones discuss the questions and their answers, the little ones can put together a puzzle related to the lesson, solve a maze, find the 7 differences and much more. We encourage you to do it week by week and instill in your children the habit of studying Yahweh’s word as a family.
We hope you and especially your sons and daughters enjoy this effort. For it is through the study of the Scriptures that we can come to understand the love and care that Yahweh has always had for us. And also to perceive that He has been taking care of even the smallest detail, so that we can take care and enjoy all that He gives us. That is why it is so important that our children learn and grow up knowing that they are loved by the Creator of all that exists.
Shalom.
