Parasha Devarim – Year 2 – Following the Guide of Yahweh.
Shabbat Shalom, Nazarene family.
This week we will study the parasha Devarim, portion of year 2, where we will see how Yahweh guides Israel on their journey, reminding them of the boundaries with neighbouring nations and the importance of respecting those boundaries. This passage shows us obedience to divine instructions and how Yahweh provides what is necessary for the journey. It also reveals how the decisions and actions of other nations affect Israel’s destiny, showing the power of divine guidance every step of the way.
Bemidbar (Numbers) 2:24-25
24 ” ‘Rise, take your journey, and cross over the River Arnon. Look, I have given into your hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land. Begin to possess it, and engage him in battle.
25 This day I will begin to put the dread and fear of you upon the nations under the whole heaven, who shall hear the report of you, and shall tremble and be in anguish because of you.’
This week corresponds to the reading of the texts (in bold):
- Devarim (Deuteronomy) 1:1-2:1 / 2:2-30 / 2:31-3:22
- Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 1:1-10 / 1:11-20Ā / 1:21-31
- Marqaus (Mark) 14:1-25 / 14:26-50Ā / 14:51-72
Summary of the weekly study, Year two:
Devarim (Deuteronomy) 2:2-30
In these verses, Yahweh directs Israel as they pass through lands close to neighbouring nations such as Seir and Moab. They are reminded to respect the territories of these nations, as Yahweh has assigned these lands to them. This passage teaches us the importance of obeying God’s instructions and trusting in His provision during the journey. It also shows us how the actions and destinies of other nations are under Yahweh’s control. Finally, it shows Yahweh’s patience in preparing His people for the challenges ahead, highlighting that obedience brings success and blessings on their journey to the Promised Land.
Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 1:11-20
In these verses, Yahweh confronts the people of Israel, rejecting their empty sacrifices and rituals when they are not accompanied by righteousness and repentance. This passage teaches that Yahweh seeks genuine change of heart, where spiritual cleansing and the practice of righteousness are essential. The instruction is clear: forsake evil, learn to do good, defend the oppressed, and seek redemption through sincere repentance. Yahweh offers forgiveness and restoration, showing that though the sins are great, He is willing to cleanse and transform those who turn to Him in sincerity.
Marqaus (Mark) 14:26-50
In these verses, Yeshua’s last night before being arrested is recounted. After supper, Yeshua and His disciples go to the Mount of Olives, where He foretells Peter’s denial and shows His anguish in the Garden of Gethsemane. Yeshua prays fervently, submitting to Yahweh’s will, while His disciples struggle to stay awake. Finally, Judas arrives with an armed mob to betray Yeshua with a kiss. This passage highlights Yeshua’s obedience in the face of suffering, human frailty and betrayal, teaching the importance of faith and trust in Yahweh.

Enjoy this fun activity with the whole family. Inside you will find development questions for the three weekly sections (Torah, Haftarah and Brit Chadashah). While the older ones discuss the questions and their answers, the younger ones can color the picture related to the teaching, solve a maze, find the 7 differences and much more. We encourage you to do it week by week and instill in your children the habit of studying Yahweh’s word as a family.
We hope you and especially your sons and daughters enjoy this effort. For it is through the study of the Scriptures that we can come to understand the love and care that Yahweh has always had for us. And also to perceive that He has been taking care of even the smallest detail, so that we can take care and enjoy all that He gives us. That is why it is so important that our children learn and grow up knowing that they are loved by the Creator of all that exists.
Shalom.
