Parasha Chayei Sarah – Year 2 – Rebeka’s Heart of Solidarity
Shabbat Shalom, Nazarene family.
This week we bring the activity of the parasha Chayei Sarah, portion of year 2 where, after the death of Sarah in the portion of year 1, we now see the story of the search for a wife for Isaac where Abraham’s servant swears to him to look for a wife for his son as he has been instructed. In addition, we will see how Rebekah’s heart of solidarity allows her to become a matriarch of the people of Israel.
B’reisheet (Genesis) 24:18-20
18 So she said, “Drink, my adon.” Then she quickly let her pitcher down to her hand, and gave him a drink.
19Ā And when she had finished giving him a drink, she said, “I will draw water for your camels also, until they have finished drinking.”
20 Then she quickly emptied her pitcher into the trough, ran back to the well to draw water, and drew for all his camels.
This week corresponds to the reading of the texts (in bold):
- Bāreisheet (Genesis) 23:1-24:9 / 24:10-52 / 24:53-25:18
- Melachim Aleph (1 Kings) 1:1-10 / 1:11-27 / 1:28-53
- Mattityahu (Matthew) 2:1-12 / 2:13-18 / 2:19-23
Summary of the weekly study, Year two:
B’reisheet (Genesis) 24:10-52
In these verses, Abraham charges his servant to find a wife for his son Isaac. The servant prays for guidance and comes to a well where he meets Rebekah. He asks her for water and, generously, she gives it and offers to quench the thirst of his camels. Acknowledging the answer to his prayer, the servant blesses her and gives her gifts. Rebekah runs to tell her family, who accept the marriage proposal. This story demonstrates Yahweh’s care in providing a wife for Isaac, His kindness, and the importance of obeying Him as He wills.
Melachim Aleph (1 Kings) 1:11-27
In these verses, Nathan the prophet and Bathsheba warn King David about Adonijah, his son, who seeks to usurp the throne. Following Bathsheba’s instructions, Nathan confirms to David that he had promised that his son Solomon would be his successor. David acts quickly, ordering the anointing of Solomon as king and announcing it publicly. This passage highlights the importance of obedience to Yahweh’s word and shows how righteous leadership and Elohim’s wisdom prevail over human intrigues and ambitions in the succession to the throne.
Mattityahu (Matthew) 2:13-18
In these verses, Yoseph (Joseph) is warned in a dream to flee to Egypt with Yeshua and Miriam (Mary), escaping Herod’s order to kill all the children under the age of two in Bethlehem. This passage fulfills Yirmeyahu’s (Jeremiah) prophecy about the weeping in Ramah for the dead children. After Herod’s death, Yoseph receives another message in a dream to return to Israel. This episode highlights Yahweh’s love and concern in protecting Yeshua and His role as the fulfillment of Scripture, while showing temporal cruelty and power confronted by the Creator’s justice and plan.

Enjoy this fun activity with the whole family. Inside you will find development questions for the three weekly sections (Torah, Haftarah and Brit Chadashah). While the older ones discuss the questions and their answers, the younger ones can color the picture related to the teaching, solve a maze, find the 7 differences and much more. We encourage you to do it week by week and instill in your children the habit of studying Yahweh’s word as a family.
We hope you and especially your sons and daughters enjoy this effort. For it is through the study of the Scriptures that we can come to understand the love and care that Yahweh has always had for us. And also to perceive that He has been taking care of even the smallest detail, so that we can take care and enjoy all that He gives us. That is why it is so important that our children learn and grow up knowing that they are loved by the Creator of all that exists.
Shalom.Ā
