1  In the beginning Elohim created the heavens and the earth.

Parashat B’reisheet – Year 1 – In The Beginning.

Shabbat Shalom, Nazarene family.

This week we will study the parashat B’reisheet, portion of year 1, where we will see how Elohim created the heavens and the earth with His powerful word. We will learn about the light and the separation of the waters according to His will. We will read how plants, the sun, the moon, and stars appeared in the firmament. We will see the creation of animals and human beings in His image. Finally, we will learn about the seventh day, which is His set-apart time of rest for us. We will read that everything He made was very good under His divine guidance.

1  In the beginning Elohim created the heavens and the earth.

Summary of the weekly study, Year one:

B’reisheet (Genesis) 1:1-2:3

In these verses, we contemplate the origin of everything that exists under the sovereign command of Elohim. We observe how His powerful voice brought order to chaos and filled creation with life and divine purpose. Every detail of the universe reflects infinite wisdom and His love for humanity, culminating with the creation of man in His image. When the seventh day arrived, He blessed His rest and made it a set-apart time to be with His people in peace. All His work is good because it comes from His kindness. In this passage, we learn that Yahweh is the Creator.

Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 42:5-17

In these verses, we contemplate the greatness of Yahweh as the only Creator of the heavens and the whole earth. He calls us in righteousness to be a light to the nations and free those in darkness under His guidance. We hear His promise that He will not give His glory to others and will declare new things for His faithful people. The entire creation must sing praises to His name because He will go out like a mighty warrior to overcome. His power protects and guides us always. In this passage, we learn that Yahweh is our eternal light.

Yochanan (John) 1:1-5

In these verses, the eternal nature of the Word, who is Yeshua, is revealed. It establishes that the Word existed from the very beginning with Elohim and that He is Elohim. Through Him, absolutely everything that exists was created, demonstrating His sovereign authority over all creation. He is the unique source of true life and the light that illuminates all humanity amidst the dense spiritual darkness. Although the world immersed in darkness may not comprehend His glory, His light prevails constantly. In this passage, we learn that Yeshua is the divine Creator and the eternal set-apart light.

While the older ones discuss the questions and their answers, the little ones can put together a puzzle related to the lesson, solve a maze, find the 7 differences and much more. We encourage you to do it week by week and instill in your children the habit of studying Yahweh’s word as a family.

We hope you and especially your sons and daughters enjoy this effort. For it is through the study of the Scriptures that we can come to understand the love and care that Yahweh has always had for us. And also to perceive that He has been taking care of even the smallest detail, so that we can take care and enjoy all that He gives us. That is why it is so important that our children learn and grow up knowing that they are loved by the Creator of all that exists.
