Parashat Behar – Year 3 – Redemption of the Israelite Brother.
Shabbat Shalom, Nazarene family.
This week we will study the parashat Behar, portion of year 3, where we will see how Yahweh teaches us to treat those in need with justice and compassion. We will learn about the liberation of servants and the value of helping our brothers and sisters without taking advantage of them. We will read how the year of jubilee brings hope, restitution, and rest, reminding us that everything belongs to Yahweh. We will also see the importance of obeying His commandments, keeping the Sabbath, and respecting His sanctuary. Together, we will learn that faithfulness and mercy bring blessing and stability to the people.
Vayiqra (Leviticus) 25:55
55 For the children of Israel are servants to Me; they are My servants whom I brought out of the land of Egypt: I am Yahweh your Elohim.
This week corresponds to the reading of the texts (in bold):
- Vayiqra (Leviticus) 25:1-24 / 25:25-38 / 25:39-26:2
- Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) 32:1-15 / 32:16-35 / 32:36-44
- Luqa (Luka) 13:1-9 / 13:10-21 / 13:22-35
Summary of the weekly study, Year three:
Vayiqra (Leviticus) 25:39-26:2
In these verses, Yahweh teaches His people to live with compassion, justice, and obedience. It speaks of helping a brother who has fallen into poverty, avoiding treating him as a slave, and remembering that all belong to Yahweh, who rescued them from Egypt. It also emphasizes the year of jubilee, when lands are restored and servants are freed, showing that Yahweh desires freedom and equity. Finally, it commands us to keep the Sabbath and revere His sanctuary. In this passage, we learn that true freedom is found in obeying and honoring Yahweh with a righteous heart.
Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) 32:36-44
In these verses, Yahweh promises to restore His people after punishment and dispersion. Although they faced destruction because of their disobedience, Yahweh announces that He will bring them back to their land with joy and security. He promises them a unified heart and path so that they will always fear Him, thus ensuring their well-being and that of their children. Yahweh commits to doing good to them, planting them firmly in the land with faithfulness. In this passage, we learn that Yahweh’s mercy is stronger than judgment, and His desire is always to restore and bless His people.
Luqa (Luka) 13:22-35
In these verses, we see Yeshua teaching about the importance of striving to enter through the narrow gate, which represents true obedience and faith. He warns that many will seek to enter but will not be able to, because it is not enough to know Him in word, but to follow Him sincerely. He also laments Jerusalem for rejecting the prophets and His call to repentance. Even so, He shows His desire to gather His people together as a hen protects her chicks. In this passage, we learn that Yeshua’s love invites repentance and a genuine relationship with Him.

Enjoy this fun activity with the whole family. Inside you will find development questions for the three weekly sections (Torah, Haftarah and Brit Chadasha). While the older ones discuss the questions and their answers, the younger ones can color the picture related to the teaching, solve a maze, find the 7 differences and much more. We encourage you to do it week by week and instill in your children the habit of studying Yahweh’s word as a family.
We hope you and especially your sons and daughters enjoy this effort. For it is through the study of the Scriptures that we can come to understand the love and care that Yahweh has always had for us. And also to perceive that He has been taking care of even the smallest detail, so that we can take care and enjoy all that He gives us. That is why it is so important that our children learn and grow up knowing that they are loved by the Creator of all that exists.
Shalom.
