Vayiqra (Leviticus) 27:30

Parashat Bechukotai – Year 3 – What We Receive We Give To Yahweh.

Shabbat Shalom, Nazarene family.

This week we will study the parashat Bechukotai, portion of year 3, where we will see how people could dedicate fields or properties that did not originally belong to them to Yahweh and how those offerings were to be valued. We will learn about the importance of keeping promises and vows made to Yahweh, and how everything had to be done with justice and respect for what is His. We will also read that the first fruits, tithes, and consecrated items were set apart as sacred, reminding us that everything we have comes from Him and should be used with gratitude and obedience.

Vayiqra (Leviticus) 27:30
30 And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the tree, is Yahweh’s. It is set-apart to Yahweh.

This week corresponds to the reading of the texts (in bold):

  • Vayiqra (Leviticus) 26:3-46 / 27:1-21 / 27:22-34
  • Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) 16:1-13 / 16:14-17:13 / 17:14-27
  • Luqa (Luka) 14:1-24 / 14:25-15:10 / 15:11-32

Summary of the weekly study, Year three:

Vayiqra (Leviticus) 27:22-34

In these verses, we are shown that everything man possesses, even that which he obtains or dedicates, ultimately belongs to Yahweh. Clear rules are established for valuing and redeeming what is offered, reminding us that faithfulness and integrity are essential in fulfilling vows. It is emphasized that tithes and consecrated items must not be altered or replaced, because they are set apart for Yahweh. This section closes the book of Leviticus by emphasizing set-apartness in every act of giving. In this passage, we learn to recognize Yahweh’s authority and absolute right over our possessions.

Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) 17:14-27

In these verses, we will see how Yahweh warns about the importance of trusting Him and obeying His commandment regarding the Sabbath. We will learn that those who keep the Sabbath and refrain from working on that day will be blessed and protected, while those who profane it will face consequences. We will also read that faithfulness to the covenant brings stability and prosperity to the city. In this passage, we learn that respect for the Sabbath reflects our trust in Yahweh and our desire to walk according to His will.

Luqa (Luke) 15:11-32

In these verses, we will see the story of the son who leaves his father, squanders everything, and then, filled with regret, decides to return home. We will learn how the father welcomes him with love, without reproach, showing Yahweh’s compassionate heart toward those who sincerely repent. We will also read about the older brother’s reaction, which teaches us about the importance of forgiveness and humility. In this passage, we learn that Yahweh is always ready to welcome us back with mercy when we return to Him, no matter how far we have strayed.

Enjoy this fun activity with the whole family. Inside you will find development questions for the three weekly sections (Torah, Haftarah and Brit Chadasha). While the older ones discuss the questions and their answers, the younger ones can color the picture related to the teaching, solve a maze, find the 7 differences and much more. We encourage you to do it week by week and instill in your children the habit of studying Yahweh’s word as a family.

We hope you and especially your sons and daughters enjoy this effort. For it is through the study of the Scriptures that we can come to understand the love and care that Yahweh has always had for us. And also to perceive that He has been taking care of even the smallest detail, so that we can take care and enjoy all that He gives us. That is why it is so important that our children learn and grow up knowing that they are loved by the Creator of all that exists.

Shalom.
