Parashat B’shalach – Year 3 – Manna: Bread From Heaven.
Shabbat Shalom, Nazarene family.
This week we will study the parashat B’shalach, portion of year 3, where we will see how the people of Israel complain about hunger and Yahweh sends them manna from heaven and quail to feed them. We will learn to trust Yahweh every day, taking only what is necessary and respecting the Sabbath. We will read how Yahweh provides water from a rock when the people are thirsty in Rephidim. We will also see the battle against Amalek, where Moshe raises his hands and Yahweh gives victory. We will learn that obedience and trust in Yahweh bring provision, guidance, and protection in the midst of the desert and challenges.
Shemote (Exodus) 16:4
4 Then Yahweh said to Moshe, “Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you. And the people shall go out and gather a certain quota every day, that I may test them, whether they will walk in My law or not.
This week corresponds to the reading of the texts (in bold):
- Shemote (Exodus) 13:17-14:31 / 15:1-27 / 16:1-17:16
- Shophetim (Judges) 4:1-16 / 4:17-24 / 5
- Mattityahu (Matthew) 5:1-16 / 5:17-32 / 5:33-48
Summary of the weekly study, Year three:
Shemote (Éxodus) 16:1-17:16
In these verses, the people of Israel, newly out of Egypt, face hunger and thirst in the desert. Yahweh responds with daily provision: manna in the morning and quail in the evening. He establishes clear instructions to gather just enough and honor the Sabbath. When the people are thirsty, Yahweh causes water to spring from a rock. Then they face a battle against Amalek, and victory comes as Moses keeps his arms raised. In this passage, we learn that Yahweh is faithful to sustain, guide, and protect, but He also teaches obedience, daily dependence, and unity in the midst of trials.
Shophetim (Judges) 5
In these verses, we read the song of Deborah and Barak, a poetic celebration of the victory that Yahweh gave Israel over Sisera. The courage of those who responded to the call is exalted, such as Jael, who decisively defeated the enemy. The indifference of some tribes that did not participate is also mentioned. The song shows that true strength comes from Yahweh and that praise arises from the recognition of His intervention. In this passage, we learn that Yahweh works through those who are willing, and His justice is manifested when His people trust and act with courage.
Mattityahu (Matthew) 5:33-48
In these verses, Yeshua continues to teach about the true righteousness of the Kingdom. He calls us to be honest in our words, without the need for oaths, and not to respond to evil with vengeance, but with humility and generosity. He also commands us to love our enemies, pray for those who persecute us, and act with a heart like that of the Father. Yeshua shows us that loving only those who love us is not enough. In this passage, we learn that the perfection Yahweh expects of us is manifested in a radical, merciful, and sincere love, like His own.

Enjoy this fun activity with the whole family. Inside you will find development questions for the three weekly sections (Torah, Haftarah and Brit Chadasha). While the older ones discuss the questions and their answers, the younger ones can color the picture related to the teaching, solve a maze, find the 7 differences and much more. We encourage you to do it week by week and instill in your children the habit of studying Yahweh’s word as a family.
We hope you and especially your sons and daughters enjoy this effort. For it is through the study of the Scriptures that we can come to understand the love and care that Yahweh has always had for us. And also to perceive that He has been taking care of even the smallest detail, so that we can take care and enjoy all that He gives us. That is why it is so important that our children learn and grow up knowing that they are loved by the Creator of all that exists.
Shalom.
