Parashat Vayishelach – Year 3 – Benjamin: Born Among Tears.
Shabbat Shalom, Nazarene family.
This week we will study the parashat Vayishelach, portion of year 3, where we will see how the journeys of Ya’akov and his family continue, and we will read about sad moments, such as the death of Rachel and Isaac. We will learn that, even in the midst of loss, Yahweh continues to fulfill His promises. We will also see the growth of Ya’akov’s family and the rise of Esau’s descendants, forming important towns. We will learn that history continues to move forward according to Yahweh’s plan, even when there is pain or separation between brothers.
B’reisheet (Genesis) 35:16-19
16 Then they journeyed from Bethel. And when there was but a little distance to go to Ephrath, Rachel labored in childbirth, and she had hard labor.
17 Now it came to pass, when she was in hard labor, that the midwife said to her, “Do not fear; you will have this son also.”
18 And so it was, as her soul was departing (for she died), that she called his name Ben-Oni; but his father called him Benjamin.
19 So Rachel died and was buried on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem).
This week corresponds to the reading of the texts (in bold):

- Hoshea (Hosea) 11 / 12 /
- Obadiah 14:1-9
- Yochanan (John) 1:1-28 / 1:29-51 / 2
Summary of the weekly study, Year three:
B’reisheet (Genesis) 35:16-36:43
In these verses, we will see moments of change and farewell in Yaakov’s life, such as the death of Rachel giving birth to her son Benjamin and the death of his father Isaac. We will also read about mistakes made by his son Reuben and how Yahweh remains faithful to His promise, confirming Yaakov’s new name: Israel. Finally, we are introduced to Esau’s descendants, showing that Yahweh also keeps His words to him. In this passage, we learn that Yahweh continues to work in the midst of pain, family and the fulfillment of His plan.
Obadiah 14:1-9
In these verses, we will learn about the message that Yahweh gives against Edom, a proud nation that trusted too much in their strength, their allies and their mountains. We will see how Yahweh announces their downfall, because they exalted themselves and acted violently against their brothers. We will read that neither the wisdom nor the protection of Edom will be able to save them from Yahweh’s judgment. We will learn that pride and betrayal have consequences, and that Yahweh is just in correcting those who harm others. In this passage, we learn that no one can hide from Yahweh’s justice.
Yochanan (John) 2
In these verses, we will see how Yeshua performs His first miracle at a wedding, turning water into wine and showing His compassion for everyday needs. We will learn that even in the simple, Yahweh works with power. Later, we will read how Yeshua enters the Temple and cleanses that which does not honor His Father, showing that worship must be sincere. We will learn that obedience and respect for the sacred are important. In this passage, we learn that Yeshua reveals His authority with love, truth and firm actions.

Enjoy this fun activity with the whole family. Inside you will find development questions for the three weekly sections (Torah, Haftarah and Brit Chadasha). While the older ones discuss the questions and their answers, the younger ones can color the picture related to the teaching, solve a maze, find the 7 differences and much more. We encourage you to do it week by week and instill in your children the habit of studying Yahweh’s word as a family.
We hope you and especially your sons and daughters enjoy this effort. For it is through the study of the Scriptures that we can come to understand the love and care that Yahweh has always had for us. And also to perceive that He has been taking care of even the smallest detail, so that we can take care and enjoy all that He gives us. That is why it is so important that our children learn and grow up knowing that they are loved by the Creator of all that exists.
Shalom.
