Parasha Vayigash – Year 2 – The long-awaited reunion.

 

Shabbat Shalom, Nazarene family.

This week we will see the parashah Vayigash, portion of year 2, in which we will see the story of Ya’akov (Israel) being informed by his sons that Yoseph (Joseph) was still alive, so he immediately decides to set out on a journey to make the long-awaited reunion with his son. In addition, we will read about the details of what Ya’akov took with him and the people who went up with him to Egypt.

Summary of the weekly study, Year two:

B’reisheet (Genesis) 45:28-46:27

In these verses, Ya’akov, also called Israel, learns that his son Yoseph, whom he thought was dead, is alive and a powerful ruler in Egypt. Moved and determined to see his son before he dies, Ya’akov sets out on a journey to Egypt. Yahweh Elohim appears to him in a dream, promising him His company and assuring him that He will make his descendants a great nation in Egypt. Ya’akov travels with his family and possessions, leaving Canaan. This portion highlights themes of faith, divine providence and the importance of family and divine promise. 

Yehezqel (Ezekiel) 37:15-22

In these verses, Yahweh instructs the prophet to take two sticks, one representing Yehudah and the other Ephraim, and join them in his hand as a symbol of the reunification of the tribes of Israel. This act symbolizes that Yahweh will reunite the scattered Israelites and make them into one nation under one king. The prophecy emphasizes the restoration and unity of Elohim’s people, promising that they will no longer be divided or defiled by idols. Through this message, Yahweh’s faithfulness to His promises and His power to redeem and unite His people is highlighted.

Yochanan (John) 5:19-29

In these verses, Yeshua teaches that His relationship with Yahweh is unique and powerful. He states that He does only what He sees His Father doing and that He has authority to give life and to judge. Yeshua declares that the Father has given all judgment to the Son, and those who honor the Son also honor the Father. He announces that there will be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous, and that He will be the judge on that day. This teaching underscores the divinity of Yeshua, His role as the final judge and the importance of faith in Him for eternal life.
