The Last Supper and the Arrest of Yeshua.
Shabbat Shalom, Nazarene family.
This week we will learn about The Last Supper and the Arrest of Yeshua, where we will study about the significance of the Last Supper as a key moment of teaching and symbolism, where Yeshua shared important messages with His disciples. We will also review the events leading up to His betrayal and arrest, involving themes of loyalty, fulfilled prophecy and preparation for future challenges. Join us as we study and be a part of these crucial moments in Yeshua’s life.
The biblical passages used in this study are:
- The last supper: Luqa (Luke) 22:14-23
- The prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane: Marqaus (Mark) 14:32-42
- The Betrayal and arrest of Yeshua: Mattityahu (Matthew) 26:14-16, 26:47-56
Some of the lessons learned from this study include:
- Yeshua’s Supper: During the Last Supper with His disciples, Yeshua takes the bread and wine, declaring that they represent His body and blood, given in sacrifice for mankind. This act marks the establishment of the new covenant, inviting His followers to remember His giving and to live in fellowship with Yahweh and each other. It is a moment of profound teaching on redemption and commitment.
- Prayer in Gethsemane: In the garden of Gethsemane, Yeshua prays intensely as He faces the imminence of His sacrifice. He expresses His anguish and vulnerability, but also His total obedience to Yahweh’s will, saying, āNot My will, but yours be done.ā This passage shows us the importance of sincere prayer and trust in Yahweh in times of trouble, showing His humanity and divinity.
- The betrayal of Yeshua: Judas Iscariot, one of the closest disciples, agrees to hand Yeshua over to the authorities in exchange for thirty pieces of silver. This betrayal shows the frailty of human nature, where greed and personal motivations can lead to devastating actions. It also proves the fulfilment of the prophecies about the betrayal of the Messiah.
- The arrest of Yeshua: Judas leads the authorities to Yeshua in Gethsemane, identifying him with a kiss. Despite the tension and violence, Yeshua rebukes those who attempt to defend him with the sword, teaching the importance of non-violence and acceptance of divine purpose. This moment shows us His control over the situation and His commitment to the fulfilment of Scripture.
- Fulfilled prophecies: The events narrated in these passages fulfil Tanakh prophecies of the Messiah’s betrayal, suffering and sacrifice. Despite the apparent defeat, it is all part of Yahweh’s plan. This shows that even in the midst of betrayal, pain and uncertainty, divine purpose prevails, reaffirming Yahweh’s sovereignty and faithfulness.
In summary, these passages present profound teachings about Yeshua’s surrender and His total obedience to Yahweh, even in the midst of betrayal and suffering. We will learn central themes of redemption, loyalty, and the fulfilment of divine purpose. Through each event, it is shown that even in the most difficult times, Yahweh’s will prevails, inviting us to trust in His plan and to live with faith, love and commitment.
Mattityahu (Matthew) 26:55-56
55 In that hour Yeshua said to the multitudes, “Have you come out, as against a robber, with swords and clubs to take Me? I sat daily with you, teaching in the temple, and you did not seize Me.
56 But all this was done that the Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples forsook Him and fled.
We hope that you, and especially your sons and daughters, will enjoy this activity. For it is through the study of the Scriptures that we can come to understand the love and care that Yahweh has always had for us. And also perceive that He has been taking care of even the smallest detail, so that we can take care and enjoy all that He gives us. That is why it is so important that our children learn and grow up knowing that they are loved by the Creator of all that exists.
Shalom.
