Hoshea (Hosea) 14:4-5
4 “I will heal their backsliding, I will love them freely, For My anger has turned away from him.
5 I will be like the dew to Israel; He shall grow like the lily, And lengthen his roots like Lebanon.

The Assyrian Exile of the House of Israel

Shabbat shalom, Nazarene family.

This week we will study the Assyrian exile of the house of Israel due to their constant attitude of worship of false elohim (gods) and disobedience against Yahweh, their Creator. Also, we will see how, in spite of the mistakes made by Israel, Yahweh promises to bring us back into His presence, with cords of love.

The biblical passages used in this study are:

  • Israel’s last king: King Hosea: Melachim Bet (2 Kings) 17:1-4
  • The reason for the Assyrian exile: Melachim Bet (2 Kings) 17:7-18
  • The house of Israel is taken captive to Assyria: Melachim Bet (2 Kings) 17:5-6
  • Yahweh speaks to the prophet Hosea: Hoshea (Hosea) 11:1-7; 14:1-9

Some of the lessons learned from this study include:

  • The fall of the kingdom of Israel occurred during the reign of King Hoshea, who, because of his sin and that of the people, attracted the wrath of Yahweh. The main lesson is the importance of obeying Elohim’s commandments and keeping the faith. The story highlights how disobedience leads to destruction and exile. It serves as a warning about the consequences of turning away from the will of Father Yahweh and seeking self-righteousness. In summary, the passage teaches that faithfulness to Yahweh Elohim is fundamental to the preservation and prosperity of His nation.
  • The people of Israel turned away from Yahweh’s commandments, worshipping idols and practicing social injustice. This disobedience provoked the wrath of Elohim, which led to Israel’s exile at the hands of Assyria. The central lesson is the importance of faithfulness to Yahweh and the application of righteousness (Yahweh’s word) in daily life. It reveals the consequences of idolatry and oppression, warning of the danger of departing from the commandments. This passage stresses that true prosperity and security come from obeying Yahweh and living in harmony with His Torah.
  • In the book of Hosea (Hosea) we see the prophet’s call to repentance and restoration. Yahweh urges Israel to return to him in sincerity, promising to heal their apostasy and to love them freely. The central lesson is the mercy and faithfulness of Yahweh, who forgives and restores those who turn to Him. The passage teaches about the transforming power of genuine repentance and trust in the Creator Yahweh. It also highlights the importance of humility and dependence on Elohim for spiritual life and growth. In summary, the words of the prophet Hosea reveal Yahweh’s unconditional and redemptive love for His people.

In summary, in this study we will see that our actions have consequences, for better or for worse, and that Yahweh, like a father who loves his children, does not want to see us lost but wants us to be able to turn to Him, even if it has to be through tribulations and anguish. Let us cry out to Him at all times and never lose faith.

The Assyrian Exile of the House of Israel

Remember, obedience to Yahweh’s commandments will bring blessing but disobedience will lead to the perdition of our souls eternally. Decide what you will do today.

We hope that you, and especially your sons and daughters, will enjoy this activity. For it is through the study of the Scriptures that we can come to understand the love and care that Yahweh has always had for us. And also perceive that He has been taking care of even the smallest detail, so that we can take care and enjoy all that He gives us. That is why it is so important that our children learn and grow up knowing that they are loved by the Creator of all that exists.

Shalom.
